Pamunkey History The Pamunkey Woman’s Club was organized on March 16, 1932 and Federated in April 1932. When many women started working and could not attend the daytime meetings, the Evening Division was organized in 1958. The Evening Division had its own officers, held separate meetings, but it functioned as an integral part of the Pamunkey Woman’s Club. The Chairman of the Evening Division was Third Vice President of the Club. By mutual consent, in May 1976, the Day and Night Divisions of the Pamunkey Woman’s Club became separate clubs with the names, Pamunkey Evening Woman’s Club and Pamunkey Day Woman’s Club. At the end of 1995 the Pamunkey Day Woman’s Club disbanded and the Pamunkey Evening Woman’s Club, with approval of the Virginia Federation of Women’s Clubs (now GFWC Virginia) and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), went back to its roots and is now the Pamunkey Woman’s Club. Many things have changed about the organization over the last 80 years but one thing remains constant. The members of this club are special. They are hard workers, volunteers, and very busy and active women.
